Orrin's Mouse Repellent Tablets
Pressed peppermint · lemongrass · rosemary
Make your house smell wrong to mice. No poison, no traps, nothing that dies in your walls.
Twelve dense plant-fiber tablets, each pressed with three concentrated essential oils. Put one at every way in, before the first hard frost, and the mice that come looking for a warm place for the winter turn around and stay out.

From 34 years of crawling under farmhouses
Orrin Kessler spent nine years with the county and twenty-five on his own pest control route in Rutland and Addison counties, Vermont. More than 5,000 houses, most of them old farmhouses with a hundred gaps each.
He learned the oldest trick in the trade on his very first job in 1990: rat catchers used to stuff the holes in barns with rags soaked in peppermint oil. It worked, for about three days, until the oil was gone. So in his last years on the route, he had the oils pressed into something that holds. He left the tablets in every attic and basement he cleared, “to stop the callback.”
Last fall his sister Glenna found a nest in her oven drawer two weeks before Thanksgiving. Orrin put down twelve tablets. Four nights later the scratching behind her headboard stopped, and her flour line stayed clean until April.

The 3-Nerve Blend: three oils, three senses
Nose
Peppermint
Menthol floods a mouse’s nose. It can’t smell food, can’t smell its trail home and can’t smell whether the coast is clear.
Whiskers
Lemongrass
Citral stings the lips and the whiskers a mouse uses to feel its way along a wall in the dark.
Eyes
Rosemary
Camphor makes the eyes water. Together, the three hit the same nerve that makes yours water over horseradish.
A mouse has more than 1,000 working smell genes. You have about 400. That nose is how it finds food, finds its way and stays safe, and it is exactly where the blend hits. A sound is something a mouse learns to ignore. A sting isn’t.
What arrives at your door
- 1 box with 12 pressed repellent tablets, about 20 grams each
- Enough for an average house, garage and car for 30 to 60 days
- Ready to use: no batteries, no outlets, no spraying, no mixing
Where the 12 tablets go
One tablet covers roughly 100 square feet, or one way in. This is Orrin’s own list, in the order he does it every October.
2 tablets
Under the kitchen sink, right where the pipes go through the wall.
3 tablets
Behind the stove, behind the fridge and in the oven drawer.
3 tablets
The attic: one by the hatch and one at each end of the eaves.
2 tablets
The basement, on the sill where the house sits on the foundation.
1 tablet
The garage, next to the birdseed, dog food or grass seed.
1 tablet
Under the hood of the car, away from the exhaust and the belts.
How to know it’s working: Orrin’s flour test
- The night before the tablets go down, dust a thin line of flour along the kitchen baseboard.
- In the morning, check it with a flashlight. Tracks mean traffic. Wipe up all droppings.
- Put the tablets down at every way in. Where you found droppings, use two.
- Lay a fresh flour line every night and check it every morning. At Glenna’s, the tracks were gone by night four.
- When a tablet no longer smells of peppermint, usually after 30 to 60 days, swap it for a fresh one.
Six things that make it different
NO. 01
Pressed, not sprayed
The oils sit inside dense plant fiber and come out slowly. Loose oil on cotton is gone in two or three days.
NO. 02
Three oils, not one
Peppermint on its own wears off fast. Three oils on three nerves are much harder to ignore.
NO. 03
Nothing dies
No poison, so no mouse dying behind your fridge and no smell you can’t wash out for weeks.
NO. 04
Works where they live
Inside cupboards, attics and walls, exactly where a plug-in’s sound never reaches.
NO. 05
Not bedding
Hard pressed tablets, not cloth or loose fluff, so there is nothing to drag off for a nest.
NO. 06
Twenty minutes, done
Twelve tablets, one Saturday, sink to attic to car. Then nothing to empty, check or reset.
The usual fixes vs. Orrin’s tablets
| What people try | What happens |
|---|---|
| Store-bought poison | Mice die in the wall, stink for weeks, risk for dogs and cats |
| Snap traps | Catch the bold one, the rest learn to walk around them |
| Ultrasonic plug-in | Works for a few days, doesn’t go through walls or doors |
| Peppermint oil on cotton | Smell is gone in 2 to 3 days, mice steal the cotton |
| Exterminator | $425 first visit, then a quarterly contract |
| Orrin’s tablets | They leave your house. 30 to 60 days per tablet, nothing dies |
In Orrin’s words
“It’s not a dirty-house problem. It’s an old-house problem. Every old house has a hundred gaps, and a mouse only needs one the width of a pencil. You can’t find them all. But you can make every one of them smell wrong.”
Orrin Kessler, retired exterminator, 34 years in Rutland and Addison counties, Vermont
Perfect for
The Kessler guarantee
90 days to see it for yourself
Put the tablets down and run the flour test. If the droppings don’t stop, or you simply change your mind, reply to your order confirmation email within 90 days and you get a full refund. No questions, no hassle.
Good to know
- Keep the tablets out of reach of children and pets, like any household product, and don’t put them where a pet can chew them.
- Don’t place tablets directly on food or on surfaces where you prepare food. Next to them is fine.
- In the car, put the tablet in a dry spot away from the exhaust, the belts and other hot or moving parts.
- The peppermint smell is noticeable for a day or two, then you stop noticing it. To a mouse, it doesn’t fade until the tablet is spent.
- Already seeing droppings? Double up at those spots and take the 2 or 3 pack.
- Ships within 24 hours with tracking, delivered in 3 to 5 business days.

I did the flour line along the kitchen baseboard first because I didn't believe any of it. Tracks by the stove every single morning. Put two under the sink and three around the stove and fridge on a Sunday, and by Thursday the flour was clean. Still clean three weeks later. The peppermint is strong for about a day, then you stop noticing it.

I'm 72 and I am done climbing on step stools to empty traps. Every fall there were droppings behind my canning jars. Nothing since the tablets went down. No poison in the house was the big one for me, I just keep them pushed back behind the shelves.

Bought it mostly for the garage. Mice had chewed through two bags of birdseed and I was scared for my truck wiring. One by the birdseed, one by the freezer, one under the hood. No new holes in the bags and the truck starts fine. Box showed up quicker than I expected and well packed.

This is my sink cabinet. The gap around the pipes is exactly where the droppings always were. Two tablets right in front of it. Haven't had to bleach that cabinet since.

The scratching over our bedroom ceiling was driving my husband nuts. One tablet by the attic hatch and two along the eaves, and it went quiet on the fifth night. I was skeptical because the cotton ball and peppermint oil trick never lasted for us. These still smell like mint a month later, the oil just evaporated in a few days.

Last winter mice built a nest on my engine and chewed a wire. $380 at the dealer. This year one tablet sits under the hood and I swapped it once so far. No nest, nothing chewed. Cheaper than one repair, that's all I needed to know.
